Natrelle® Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is one of the most popular surgical procedures, with more and more women wishing to improve the size and/or shape of their breasts. The desire for natural-looking (and feeling) breasts led to the development of implant technologies like Natrelle®, also referred to as the “gummy bear implant.” Manufactured by Allergan and approved by the FDA for breast augmentation, Natrelle® offers some of the best breast implant portfolios. Ideal candidates for Natrelle® implants are patients looking for breast augmentation with higher customizability compared to older implant technologies. You may be considered a good candidate if you want to increase the size of your natural breasts or if you have experienced volume loss after pregnancy or weight changes.
You should be in good physical and mental health, with no active infections or untreated breast cancer. You should also consider postponing the procedure if you are currently pregnant or nursing. Natrelle® implants come in different gummy levels with a “soft to touch” feel. The silicone gel implants are filled with silicone gel that mimics the shape of the breast tissue in both look and sensation. Natrelle® uses several gel technologies, depending on what your breast augmentation goals are:
Breast augmentation with Natrelle® is an outpatient procedure, with most procedures taking one to two hours to perform. Patients are placed under general anesthesia to minimize discomfort to a minimum. Incisions are also made in areas that are easy to conceal, such as the breast fold, the areola, or the armpit.
The pockets for the Natrelle® implants can be underneath the chest muscle or above the muscle. Dr.’s McMillan and Cohen will advise which location is best for you. This allows the breast to keep a natural shape while feeling soft to the touch.
Recovery from breast augmentation with Natrelle® is similar to any other implant used and will be more dependent on the location of placement. You will likely experience modest swelling, tightness, and mild discomfort in the first few days, as the body adjusts to the implants. Pain can be managed most often with Tylenol and hardly ever requires prescribed medication. A surgical bra helps offer support.
You may perform light activities or engage in desk work one week after the procedure; different forms of exercise can be performed in typically 3 to 4 weeks. Heavy lifting can strain the chest muscles and delay recovery, so take some time off in the meantime.
Swelling goes significantly down after a month, and final results are typically visible in about 12 weeks.
The first results after Natrelle® are visible immediately in terms of volume, but they will likely be most settled in about 3 months. Once the swelling goes down, you should notice the breasts looking fuller and more proportionate, with improved symmetry and contour. The breasts should look and feel natural, depending on your choice of gummy level. Complications and ruptures are rare, and typically, the first evaluation by ultrasound can be done in the office in 5 years.
Results are long-lasting, although they were not meant to last a lifetime. However, you can expect them to last about 10 years or more, and sometimes even longer. Natrelle® offers the Natrelle® ConfidencePlus® Warranty, which means that clients can enjoy a 10-year implant replacement warranty for rupture or deflation, depending on the implant type.
